There goes a proverb that, “fire is a good servant but very bad master”. Because fire will serve you well till it remains controlled. Otherwise fire can be cause of huge damage of properties as well as human life.
But most of the people do not know how to use fire extinguisher or what is to be done in case of fire accident.
So Safety Management Foundation (SMF) tries to go door to door to train up the people regarding the uses of fire extinguisher at free of cost. As our foundation has a trained volunteer team, it is comparatively possible job for us. Usually we visit the houses at weekend, because most of the people are become available at home at weekend and we show the uses of fire extinguisher and also the local measures those are helpful during fire accidents.
We have visited almost 200 houses in Dhaka city regarding the uses of fire extinguisher. We have different experiences at different houses. Some welcomed us warmly and some other is too rude. But our target is to make the common people aware of fire accidents and teach them the use of fire extinguisher.
A shortcut method can be applied to use fire extinguisher, that is-
PASS!
P= Pull out the safety pin
A= Aim at the base of the fire
S= Squeeze the liver
S= Sweep side to side
